Case Study

Pyrolysis Plant

Project:

QinetiQ Pyrolysis Plant

Client: QinetiQ

History: Silchester Control Systems has been working in partnership with QinetiQ on developing a Pyrolysis Energy from Waste Solution. The plant is located at QinetiQ’s Farnborough HQ and aims to convert waste into energy through pyrolysis.

Solution

The automation system for the plant consists of a Rockwell ControlLogix and FactoryTalk View SE system. The Field I/O is managed via Flex Standard and Ex Remote I/O, along with five PowerFlex 753 drives, all communicating on an Ethernet network. Additionally, there is a Rockwell Historian ME/SE system and a remote ViewPoint terminal.

Silchester Control Systems was responsible for:

  • Electrical design and installation of the Main Control Panel and Remote I/O Panels
  • Configuration of the PLC and SCADA software applications, including the ViewPoint terminal
  • Configuration of the Historian ME and its relationship with the Historian SE

Results

The project has now entered a development/trial phase, and Silchester continues to support QinetiQ in all aspects of the automation challenge. The successful implementation of the control systems has enabled efficient monitoring and management of the pyrolysis process, contributing to the overall goal of converting waste into energy.

"Silchester's expertise in electrical design and control system configuration has been instrumental in advancing our Pyrolysis Energy from Waste project."
