History: Silchester Control Systems Ltd recently completed a major project at Procter and Gamble, involving the modification of existing processes to incorporate improved batch cooling and additional steam sanitisation functionality. Each individual line system within the process department was upgraded in turn to minimise production downtime.

Solution
The project involved creating the control system Functional Design Specification (FDS) for each of the individual processes. This specification integrated the electrical and mechanical aspects of the project and detailed the requirements for the control system software configurations.
The existing batch-making processes and the new functionality were incorporated into the FDS. Once approved, the Omron PLC and Wonderware SCADA software configurations were produced. Commonality of structure and design was maintained across the processes to ease maintenance and diagnosis.
Upon completion of the electrical and mechanical installations, Silchester Control Systems Ltd completed the download, commissioning, and testing of the software control systems, working with Proctor and Gamble to achieve the required validation of the new processes.
Results
The successful upgrade of the process hall systems enhanced batch cooling and steam sanitisation capabilities, providing greater efficiency and reliability in production processes. The project was planned and executed to ensure minimal production downtime and continuous operations. This upgrade not only enhanced the facility's overall performance but also demonstrated a commitment to maintaining high standards of operational efficiency and quality.
